Nopi Gold leafed projecting halo
THE LOWDOWN
At Nopi restaurant, the marble is white, the brass is glistening and the food is full of bold flavours. The agency behind the brand, Here Design, asked us for signage that would match the quality of the deli eatery, which sits under the umbrella of the renowned Ottolenghi chain. Nopi’s logo is simple yet sleek, with all black lettering and one gold O – this single ingredient has become their trademark and they asked us to recreate it as a projecting sign overlooking their Soho sidewalk. We had an absolute blast leaf gilding a wooden ring in 23 carat gold leaf, and then installing it so that it seems as if it’s floating midair like a halo. The sign immediately says classic quality, which makes perfect sense when you consider that most metallic foils are more impervious to the wind and rain than many paints – winning!
