Wooden Signs Wooden logos, lettering & panels
Our wooden signs are ecologically friendly, naturally durable and highly customisable- and we find they’re equally sought after by independent businesses and corporate clients. Why?
Whether you’re looking for an industrial edge, traditional rustic warmth or clean Scandinavian lines - the textures and tones of wood instil your environment with inherent beauty. They’re perfect for when you want to deliver the functions of wayfinding or branding and have the added benefit of enhancing the appearance of your space.
How can I customise wood?
You can select your surface finish from a variety of veneered woods, or choose from a solid wood which can be left raw, varnished or painted.
In our experience the most sustainable timber is locally sourced red cedar, while marine plywood is the option we most frequently recommend to clients for weathering the elements. We also have a lot of customers looking to match their interiors, opting for oak, maple or cherry among others.
Once you’ve decided on your base material, we’ll build:
Routed lettering or logos that are precision cut out of flat panels, making for unique fascia signage or often manifesting as wall signs for welcome areas or meeting rooms
A plaque or board that’s left flat or with a raised edge, mostly used as room identifiers, building directories or as way to display a list of members
Our wooden logos, lettering and panels can then be finished with:
Laser engraving for intricate detailing or extremely clean lines
Hand painting for a wash of colour or artisanal elements
Vinyl lettering or graphics to exactly match the visual language of your office or brand
Our most popular wooden products include welcome signs, navigational signage such as floor directories and room names or numbers, and honours boards for educational institutions, places of worship and professional associations looking to recognise the accomplishments of their members (read our FAQs for more detail on these in our dedicated section).
Ultimately there are a wealth of effects that can be achieved with the different combinations we have and a plethora of places these signs would be suited to - just let us know your design or we’ll happily make a one for you from scratch, before building your aesthetic with sustainable materials and a premium finish.
This page refers to lettering, logos, plaques or boards cut from a flat wooden panel - usually 3mm, 5mm or 6mm in thickness. The result tends to be quite streamline in appearance, though still somewhat raised and tactile. If you are looking for built up wooden signs or signs made from very thick cuts of wood, pop over to our 3D page or contact us.
WOODEN SIGNS
We’ll use wooden panels to build a plaque or board that’s left flat or with a raised border. Or we’ll cut shapes out of them to make lettering or logo signs. We’ll then brand your wooden signs by painting them, laser engraving them or overlaying them with cut vinyl.
The type of sign we are referring to here is lettering, logos, plaques or boards cut from a flat wooden panel - these tend to come in 3mm, 5mm or 6mm thickness. 3D wood signs would be lettering or logos that are cut from planks of wood that are chunkier - the depth depends on what you’re looking to achieve. Let us know and we'll be happy to help.
Internally, you could choose a wood finish you like, whether it be veneered or solid. If the sign is external, it is best to use a marine plywood which is extremely durable. Wooden signs can be primed to help durability but are still prone to warp externally if they are not marine ply.
Depending on what stage you’re at, send us an idea of what you are trying to achieve or your design, then we can look at this and advise the best way of going forward. Once we agree on aesthetics and the materials that will be used, we can then give you a quote and get on with manufacturing your sign.
This is totally dependent on process, size and design but generally, you would need to allow 3-4 weeks for a wooden sign.
This depends on where it is going. For wall mounting, your sign can be screwed to the wall or you could use keyhole fittings. For hanging, your sign can have eyelets in the wood where you can then fit brackets.
Our wooden signs are made from FSC certified sources. This is a form of harvesting that is ‘being managed in a way that preserves biological diversity and benefits the lives of local people and workers, while ensuring it sustains economic viability. FSC-certified forests are managed to strict environmental, social and economic standards’.
We will finish your wooden sign so that it is suitable for the conditions it is destined to be in, and with proper care and maintenance, it can last for years. It is always best to try and keep it clean - a routine wipe with soap and water will usually do.

Honours Boards
Honours boards tend to be wooden signs in the form of plaques or directories that display the names of individuals or groups to recognise their achievements - they are often found in churches, schools, universities and sports clubs amongst others, however we are particularly fond of how London Zoo put them to use:
We specialise in high-quality honours boards made from premium FSC certified timber. Mahogany is a popular material for this type of sign being the traditional choice, though you can choose any solid or veneered wood. Your sign may also be stained or painted to match the aesthetic of the space in which it will be displayed.
At Glyphics, we’ll build you a bespoke honours board in any size or shape, complete with your choice of framing - from plain edges, chamfered edges and quarter bead edging to traditional moulding or an intricate carved outer casing.
Once you’ve chosen the form your honours board will take, one of our skilled artists can hand paint intricate wording onto your sign to personalise it, instilling a sense of elegance and tradition to the honours board. Alternatively, for a quicker turnaround and more cost-effective option, you can finish your sign with lettering in a font of your choosing using white, black, or gold vinyl, with the option of additional features such as an exact match logo.
The sign can be wall mounted vertically or horizontally using screws or keyhole fittings, though if they're likely to be regularly updated it's best to ask us to install brackets that allow them to be hung.
Wooden signs can be primed to help withstand the elements but are still prone to warp in wet conditions, unless they are marine plywood which is extremely durable.
Currently we supply updates to clients if they need to change information on their honours boards upon request.
The way in which we do this and the speed varies depending on the type of sign, the mounting method and mostly, on the lettering you have opted for e.g vinyl is a lot quicker to swap out than hand painted words.
When you contact us, we'll consider all the details and agree the best way forward. We archive your file for at least 3 years from the date of your order, so we will be able to pull up your design when you get in touch - if you contact us after that time, just fill us in on the details and we will still be able to match the finish.
