THE LOWDOWN

Etsy’s Clerkenwell offices are an eclectic display of craft wares and vintage furniture, acting as a base for regular seller/buyer workshops and fairs. The creative marketplace is all about good design, as much a positive space offline as it is online, with offices that are large, airy and open plan, dotted with green plants and lined with Etsy’s trademark, happy orange. Etsy commissioned American designer Andrew Freeman and asked us to work with him when building their braille wayfinding signs that are compliant with the Disability Discrimination Act – we are head over heels in love with Andrew’s cute iconography and wordplay, what do you reckon?

THE SPECS

Thirty-one signs, across two floors. The size for each sign is 165mm x 286mm overall. 5mm thick foamex with two 1.5mm thick photopolymer sections have been applied to the face. These photopolymer sections have been reverse-etched by 1mm, leaving the braille, icons and room number proud by 1mm. Along with the protruding graphics, the quirky room names have been silk screened on, with all featured colours tone matched to be perfectly on-brand.
